A primary school in London Colney has raised a minibus full of donations for typhoon victims in the Philippines.
Parents, children and staff at Bowmansgreen JMI have been bringing in supplies for the past few weeks following the recent disaster.
Louise Calder, parent governor, said: “Every time I arrived at the school, the entrance was blocked by daily donations.
“The children were so upset from seeing the devastation on the news; we turned that sadness into action.”
Donations ranged from tarpaulin and carrycots to tinned food and bottled water. Parents’ generosity also stretched to computers, fully working and ready for people affected by last month’s storm.
Shipping the donations will also be free thanks to Forex Cargo and the Philippine Red Cross, who are working hard support the Filipino community.
In the wake of the response, the school has applied to the Filipino Embassy to help fundraise towards rebuilding a school in the Phillipines.
Anyone wanting to support the cause should contact the school.
