A LOVING mother died of an extremely rare condition just 11 days after her baby was born by Caesarean section, an inquest heard on Thursday.

Laura Madden, of London Colney, died on January 25 this year at Watford General Hospital due to an unusual syndrome which causes sudden death.

The 31 year old was found collapsed on the bathroom floor of her Napsbury Avenue home which she shared with fiancé Joe O’Shea and their four children.

Paramedics tried to resuscitate her but she was confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital.

After further examinations by cardio expert Dr Mary Sheppard the rare condition was discovered.

There are only around 94 recorded cases throughout the world and it most often affects women, with a majority of cases reported after childbirth.

Herts Coroner Edward Thomas ruled the death was due to natural causes and said it was just the second time he had come across a similar case in his 20 working years.

He said to the family: “I can’t begin to understand how awful this is for all of you.”

Partner of 14 years Joe described his late fiancée as a “loving, caring person” who was “extremely too young” when she died.

They had moved to the area only four months before she died and gave birth to their little boy Callum.

Mr Thomas praised the family for providing samples to help learn more about the tragic condition.
