Harpenden Rugby Club has announced that media expert and local personality Steve Hewlett died this morning.
He was a member of Harpenden rugby club for many years, as well as a referee for Hertfordshire RFU Society.
The general public knew him as a columnist for The Guardian, and presenter of Radio 4’s The Media Show.
He had previously worked as editor of the BBC’s flagship current affairs programme Panorama, which broadcast the now famous interview between Princess Diana and Martin Bashir.
The club has extended its heartfelt sympathies to his wife, Rachel, and his wider family.
