TWO ornamental lions have been stolen from outside a St Albans property and police are appealing for witnesses and information.

The theft of the lions, which are 3ft 6ins tall and made of concrete, took place outside a property in Mentmore Road between midnight and 7am last Thursday, May 12.

The two lions, each carrying a shield and one with a damaged nose, were placed either side of the front door of the property.

Investigating officer Pc Des Kelly appealed for anyone who was in the local area at the time and saw any suspicious behaviour around the street or an unfamiliar vehicle in the area to get in contact.

He went on: “The lions are extremely heavy and a vehicle of some form would have been needed to move them any distance.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Pc Kelly on the non-emergency number 0845 3300 222 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
