A human rights activist is coming to St Albans Cathedral to give a talk about challenging homophobia within the church.
Peter Tatchell, who has been a human rights activist since the age of 15, has been invited to the Cathedral to share his experience of campaigning for LGBT rights.
He said: “I’ll be talking about my half a century challenging church homophobia and the history, motives and outcomes of my activism, including the ethics of outing the 10 bishops in 1994 and the Canterbury Cathedral protest in 1998.
“Both these direct actions had positive consequences, though much more remains to be done to end the church’s opposition to same-sex marriage, the hounding of gay clergy and collusion with anti-LGBT Anglicans worldwide.”
The talk will take place in the Cathedral’s Lady Chapel at 8pm on Thursday, April 26.
