Most Hertfordshire schools have been closed as the Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow.

Rail disruptions

Trains between St Albans Abbey and Watford may be cancelled until the end of the day.

There are no other disruptions to trains in St Albans, Harpenden, Hatfield, Potters Bar, or Radlett.

Road disruptions

There are no disruptions on the roads in St Albans, Harpenden, Hatfield, Potters Bar, or Radlett.

School closures

In and around St Albans, the following schools are shut: Abbey Church of England, St Albans Girls School, Sandringham School, St Michael’s Church of England, Wheatfields Junior School, St Albans School, Camp Primary and Nursery School, Flamstead Village School, Mandeville Primary School, SS Alban and Stephen Infant and Nursery School, St Michael’s Church of England VA School, St Peter’s School.

In and around Harpenden, the following schools are shut: Batford Nursery School, Skylarks Daycare, Harpenden Children’s Centre, Beech Hyde Primary School and Nursery, Breachwood Green JMI School, The Grove Infant and Nursery School, The Grove Junior School, Harpenden Academy, High Beeches Primary School, Kimpton Primary School.

In Welwyn Garden City, the following schools are shut: Applecroft School, Codicote Church of England Primary School, Commonswood Primary and Nursery School, Creswick Primary and Nursery School, Harwood Hill JMI and Nursery School, Holwell Primary School, The Holy Family Catholic Primary School, Homerswood Primary School, Ludwick Nursery School, Monk’s Walk School.

In Hatfield, the following schools are shut: Birchwood Avenue Primary School, Bishop’s Hatfield Girls School, Brookmans Park Primary School, Chancellor’s School, Countess Anne School, De Havilland Primary School, Essendon C of E VC Primary School, Green Lanes Primary School, Hatfield Community Free School.

In Potters Bar, the following schools are shut: Cranbourne Primary School, Cuffley School, Dame Alice Owen’s School, Ladbrooke JMI School, Little Heath Primary School, Mount Grace School, Northaw C of E Primary School, Oakmere Primary School.

In Radlett, the following schools are shut: Fair Field Junior School, Newberries Primary School, St John’s C of E Infant and Nursery School.

I should probably have taken the hint! Walking out into the garden recently an unprecedented flock of thirty or more crows raucously greeted me from the treetops at the bottom of my garden. Cawing and croaking these big, black birds clung clumsily to the top most branches and twigs, jostling and flapping to stay balanced in a constant flurry of feathers. There is always something ominous about crows – they are after all carrion crows, the vultures of the bird world – always watching for scraps and weakness that might mean their next meal.
