AN HISTORIC village pub has served up its last pint and a company is now looking into the best way to use the site.

Wooden hoarding has already been erected around The Swan in Watling Street, Park Street, which shut it doors on Friday night for the last time.

Marion Buckley, who has run the pub for the last two years, said she was sorry to leave but admitted that the brewery, Fuller's, had told her The Swan might be closing when she took it over.

Ideal Rise, the company which now owns the site, said that the pub was no longer a viable business because it was only making between £1,300 and £1,400 a week.

Some drawings of what a housing development could look like on the land have been submitted to St Stephen Parish Council but the company's corporate planning director, Mark Fitzgerald, said they were currently looking at a range of options for the future use of the site.

He added that the company wanted to agree on a suitable future use for the pub and the adjoining car park with local councillors and people before they applied for planning permission of any form.
