A MAN was attacked with a knife during a robbery at a four-star St Albans hotel in the early hours of Monday morning.

Three thieves raided Sopwell House Hotel between 3am and 3.45am and a member of staff was left with a knife wound to his stomach but did not require hospital treatment.

Staff were also threatened with what appeared to be a gun in the raid at the hotel in Cottonmill Lane, in which more than £1,000 of cash was stolen.

A police spokesperson said it was believed that two of the thieves were white men while the other was black. It is not known what direction they made off in or by what means.

But police are appealing for witnesses and information about the incident to help them trace those responsible.

Anyone who can help should contact Sergeant Francesca Ward on 0845 3300 222 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The hotel was also targeted by robbers in March when a member of staff was held at gunpoint and the thieves stole a cashbox.
