JUNE has been the sunniest month of the year so far. It was also drier than usual and with above-average temperatures has heralded a much better start to the summer than last year.

The sun shone for 229 hours which is nearly 40 hours above the norm. The warmest day was Monday, June 9, with the temperature reaching 24.5, in contrast to a week later, June 16, when it reached the lowest point of 5.5 degrees.

Rainfall was well below average with just over 35mm, almost 25mm less than normal. Mondays had all the extremes with the most rain, 10.3mm, also falling on a Monday - June 2. Interestingly the driest month so far this year still remains February.
