WET Wet Wet summed up the weather in July which, in all other respects, was an average month.

Weather statistics collated at Rothamsted in Harpenden show that rainfall was above average with 73.3m which is 31.2mm above the mean. It made July the second highest month for rainfall this year after February.

There were 19 days with 0.2mm or more of rain and seven of those had more than 5mm. The wettest day was July 7 with 12mm recorded.

Sunshine was 3.6 hours below average with 199.7 hours. The sunniest day was July 1 with 12.7 hours and the least amount was July 21 with 0.2 hours but there was some sunshine on every day of the month.

The average maximum temperature was slightly down at 20.8 degrees and the average minimum was slightly up at 12.3 degrees. The warmest day, like the sunniest, was July 1 when temperatures reached 27.4 degrees.

The lowest night time temperature was 9.3 degrees on July 28.
