A prolific thief who stole more than £900 worth of perfume and aftershave has been jailed for 16 weeks.

Trefor Jones, from the hamlet of Little Chishill near Royston, stole the cosmetics in two thefts from Boots in St Albans on November 22 and December 8 – stealing £632 of the stuff on the first occasion, and £282 on the second.

The 33-year-old admitted both thefts when he appeared before St Albans magistrates on Friday, as well as a theft of meat and alcohol worth £123.43 from Co-op in Buntingford on March 30 last year.

Chairman of the bench Kevin Walsh sentenced him to 16 weeks behind bars, noting Jones’ history of offending and failure to engage with previous orders.

Jones must also pay a total of £378 in compensation for the thefts by April 20. No surcharge or costs were ordered due to Jones’ lack of means.
