A group of female engineers in St Albans met one of their industry’s leaders at a day designed to encourage more women into the profession.
The five women met Prof Tim Broyd, president of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), during his visit to AECOM’s St Albans office.
Each individual gave an in-depth description of the project they have been working on, followed by a discussion about the pros, cons and wins.
This was the first part of Prof Broyd’s official visit to the East of England, which coincided with the 2017 International Women in Engineering Day.
This day was conceived to promote and celebrate the contributions of female engineers, which is described an occupation in crisis with a disproportionate number of women not involved compared to men.
Prof Broyd also visited the Building Research Establishment (BRE) at Watford and the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield, which has a long history with civil engineering.
