An eight-day inquiry has been scheduled to examine Oaklands College’s spurned housing development proposed for St Albans’ Green Belt.

Communities secretary Greg Clark has confirmed that a hearing into an appeal by joint developers Oaklands and Taylor Wimpey North Thames against a rejected scheme for 348 homes will start on Tuesday May 10, at the district council’s offices.

The local authority refused planning permission for a comprehensive redevelopment to provide new and refurbished college buildings at Oaklands’ Smallford campus, which were to have been enabled by a major residential development on agricultural fields off Sandpit Lane.
