AN INQUEST has opened into the death of an elderly woman who was killed in a freak accident when she became trapped under a car.

Barbara Joan Towers, aged 88, of Willow Way in Chiswell Green, died last Friday morning, February 29, after it is thought that her car rolled backwards on top of her.

She may have been trying to inflate the vehicle's tyres using an electric pump at the time of the accident, which happened in the driveway of a property in Watford Road, Chiswell Green.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post mortem revealed that Ms Towers died of mechanical suffocation but she had also been suffering from cancer.
