AN inquest into the death of a popular schoolgirl who died after being hit by a car has been opened and adjourned.

Eleanor Austin, 15, was seriously injured after an accident along the A405 in Bricket Wood, near the Chequers Lane junction, on Friday, November 7, and died in Charing Cross hospital the following Monday.

A post mortem found that the teenager, of Turnberry Drive, Bricket Wood, died from a severe and traumatic brain injury, which will be subject to confirmation at an inquest opened and adjourned last week.

Heartfelt tributes to the Parmiter's School student have poured into social networking site Facebook, where a group set up in her memory has nearly 4,000 members.

Her headmaster, Brian Coulshed, described the teenager as a very popular and successful pupil in his tribute to her which appeared in last week's Herts Advertiser.
