More brides-to-be are buying second-hand wedding dresses from a St Albans charity shop.
Disability charity Scope, in The Maltings, have started selling two wedding dresses a month - often they have never been worn and are in perfect condition.
Assistant manger at the shop, Nicole Swain, said: “This makes great financial sense and could potentially save the bride-to-be around a thousand pounds, which means she can get a few alterations made to make that dress totally unique and her own. She then has all that extra money to spend on the wedding or honeymoon if she wishes.”
Scope are encouraging people to donate unwanted clothes to its shop as part of their Great Donate campaign.
Retail manager David Styles, described it as “canny planning”: “In these financially-hard times, the cost of a new or bespoke wedding dress can make a huge dent in your budget.”
