HERTS Advertiser columnist Roger Protz has won two prizes in the annual awards presented by the British Guild of Beer Writers.
He was awarded the top prize in the Best Writing in National Publications category and also picked up a silver award for his work in the weekly trade paper the Publican’s Morning Advertiser.
Roger, who lives in Charmouth Road, St Albans, and writes the Herts Ad’s fortnightly beer column, said: “I was particularly pleased that the judges singled out my book The Story of Brewing in Burton-on-Trent as it highlights Britain’s proud tradition of beer making, especially the great innovations of the 19th Century.
“The judges added the rider that I was a ‘true journalist’ and that was good to hear in a year that has spotlighted the seamier side of my profession.”
