A Harpenden landlady was celebrating after “being cleared of causing distress to two gay female police officers in her pub,” the Herts Advertiser reported in its February 15, 2007 edition.
Nicola Hackett, of The Old Cock Inn, was found not guilty of the public order offence at St Albans Magistrates’ Court.
After being cleared, a relieved Mrs Hackett told the paper that her ordeal had been ‘a nightmare’.
In the village of Wheathampstead, locals were upset after trees were chopped down on Nomansland Common to make it easier for model aircraft to take off and land.
And a letter to the editor sang the praises of the St Albans Civic Society’s Eric Roberts and Marion Hammant, and “many others who are totally committed to fight against the desecration of St Albans” in light of various planning schemes, including a Bricket Road cinema proposal.
