THREE days have been set aside in the High Court in late June to hear the legal challenge lodged by Helioslough against the Secretary of State’s decision to refuse planning permission for a railfreight depot in Park Street.
Both the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Eric Pickles, and St Albans council are opposing the legal challenge due to be heard on Tuesday, June 28, and last for three days.
Last July Mr Pickles decided to overrule his planning inspector and refuse planning permission for the scheme earmarked for Radlett Airfield which had been the subject of a second planning inquiry after the first was refused by former Secretary of State Hazel Blears.
Helioslough is planning a 3.5 million square metre scheme which would involve parking for thousands of cars, five large warehouses - one of which would be as big as Heathrow’s Terminal Five - and a new by-pass for Park Street.
