A POLICE helicopter search was mounted to find a missing man on Sunday afternoon.
The man, aged about 80 and from Harpenden, had last been seen in the vicinity of the Waitrose supermarket on the Verulam estate in St Albans.
Chris Mackriell and his wife were walking in Corinium Gate around 3.15pm when they were approached by a police officer. Mr Mackriell said: "The police helicopter was hovering overhead and we were asked if we had seen a man almost six foot tall wearing a black bomber jacket and square glasses."
A police spokesperson said the man had been missing for around two hours when he was tracked down by the helicopter In Radlett Road at about 3.40pm and taken home.
