A heart condition may have been to blame for the sudden death of a popular teenager.

Vincenzo Vetere, a Year 12 Beaumont Secondary School pupil, was taken ill at his home in Beechwood Avenue on the morning of Friday, November 13, and died at the QEII hospital shortly afterwards.

The cause of death has not yet been confirmed but in a letter to parents, head teacher Elizabeth Hitch said 16-year-old Vincenzo had been "undergoing tests for a heart condition".

Vincenzo, who was known as Chinni to his friends and family, died just days after another Beaumont School pupil, 14-year-old Liam Woods, lost his battle with meningococcal (bacterial) meningitis.

Mrs Hitch said it is "an incredibly hard time" for both the boys' friends and families: "It is difficult for everyone who knew them and for staff who taught them. It is eight years since a student attending Beaumont has died so to have two deaths in one week is unbelievable the whole Beaumont community is in shock.
