A HAYSTACK went up in flames on Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters from St Albans were called to the blaze in Highfield Lane, near to the junction with Tyttenhanger Green, at around 5.15pm.

Around 10 tonnes of hay had caught fire accidentally.

The fire was out within around an hour but the crews returned to the scene later that night and the following morning to check that it had not reignited.
