Swimmer Tom Clark is lapping up the miles to raise money for spinal cord injury charity Aspire.
Tom, 30, a barman at the Carpenter’s Arms in Harpenden, has just completed a 22-mile cross-channel swim from Dover to France in a pool - and is now preparing to swim back to Dover, a total of 44 miles.
He was inspired to take part in the fundraising event in aid of the charity after sea swimming while on holiday in Corfu. When he got home and saw adverts for the Aspire channel swim, he decided to take part.
Tom enjoyed swimming the length of Dover to Calais so much that he found himself covering up to a mile a day - and then decided to redouble his efforts and swim there and back, a total of 44 miles.
Paul Parrish, director of fundraising and marketing at Aspire, said: “Despite living in the area I didn’t know Tom but our community should be very proud of this man. His fundraising is streets ahead of anyone else and his commitment and enthusiasm has inspired me.”
