A Harpenden Scout has been selected to represent the UK at a global meeting in Iceland.

Richard Bird will represent the UK at the 15th World Scout Moot between July and August.

He said: “I love international Scouting trips, they are amazing. I can’t wait to make new friends and share new skills with them!”

Richard is one of 500 UK participants travelling to the Moot, which will be attended by 5,000 Scouts from 80 countries.

The participants will stay at the National Scout Centre and take in the Geysir and the waterfalls of Gulfoss.

TV star and Chief Scout Bear Grylls wished them well, saying: “I’d just like to say a massive good luck to our brilliant UK contingent.

“I am sure it’s going to be a trip to remember!

“I have filmed many times in Iceland and it is an incredible place to adventure and develop new skills that you can use throughout the rest of your life.

“It’s also a place that tests what you are made of!”
