The Christmas lights in Harpenden are set to come down more than two months after the festive season.

The lights were kept up so that five-year electrical checks could be done, to ensure the lights are in working order and so they can be put up more quickly next year.

Carl Cheevers, Harpenden town clerk, said: “They’ll be down by the end of this week. They’re up there right now taking them down.

“When we install them we have to do an electrical test which is either an annual or a five-year test. We have taken the opportunity to do a five-year-test so every time we put them up we don’t have to do this particular test.”
