BRITAIN’S Got Talent songstress Alice Fredenham has blamed a last-minute switch of song for her less-than-polished performance on last week’s semi-final of the ITV show.

The 28 year old from Harpenden failed to obtain enough votes to go through to this weekend’s final of the hit programme and is now concentrating on releasing music by the end of the year. However the former beauty therapist described her experience on Britain’s Got Talent as “positive”.

Alice burst into tears after singing Cry Me A River in the show’s semi-final contest last Tuesday while judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, David Walliams and Alesha Dixon praised her voice as “liquid platinum” and urged her to believe in herself.

She explained to the Herts Advertiser that she had been rehearsing the song Over the Rainbow for the semi-final, but was asked to consider singing Ella Fitzgerald’s jazz ballad instead.

As a result she made some errors while singing.

Alice said: “There was a suggestion to change the song on the day. So I hadn’t read it and only had a few run-throughs on the Tuesday. It was a bad decision as I was hoping to sing Over The Rainbow and only had the chance to practice Cry Me A River a few times.

“This affected my performance. It was a case of not having the rehearsal time. The nerves kicked in and unfortunately I haven’t found a way of conquering them. When I was performing I lost my nerve and just panicked.”

However Alice said she was really proud to have reached the semi-finals.

And she described the many compliments she received from the Britain’s Got Talent judges as “unbelievable”.

David and Alesha told her she was a star while Amanda described her as “old Hollywood”.

And while she may have missed out on £250,000 in prize-money, Alice has no intention of giving up her dream of becoming a successful singer.

Alice added: “There was a belief in me which I will take from the competition and I will use to remind me, if I ever feel down and out.”

“Appearing on Britain’s Got Talent could be a great platform to start my music career. I would be foolish not to take that opportunity with both hands. Looking ahead, I might do some gigs and I’m working on recording some music to release by the end of the year.”

Her fans hope she may still have a chance to appear in this Saturday’s final as there is a wildcard entry in the show. A spokeswoman for ITV said that an announcement on the act chosen would be made on the night.
