A HIGHLY polished and confidently performed speech from a trio of public speakers from Roundwood Park School beat six other teams to win the national final of the RIBI Youth Speaks Competition in the intermediate category for ages 11-13.
The Roundwood team, who are sponsored by Harpenden Village Rotary, were made up of Hannah Berry, Hester Moore and Olivia Donovan. They travelled to the regional Rotary Conference in Scarborough last weekend to perform a speech on manners to more than 300 Rotarians.
The talk focused on how manners are commonly dismissed within our society, and covered the history of etiquette, the importance of a simple smile and encouraging people to give a little more time to others around us.
A spokesperson for Harpenden Rotary said: “The polished performance was greeted with rapturous applause and celebration by the Rotary clubs at the event who are very proud to have been able to support these youngsters.”
