A LONG-time dream became reality when a new delicatessen was opened by the Mayor of Harpenden, Cllr Mike Weaver, earlier this month.
Not only did the Mayor carry out the opening ceremony at Jay’s Delicatessen in Southdown but as a prominent former local businessman and Chamber of Commerce member, he also provided business advice to owner Jay Begum.
He advised new businesswoman Jay on the location of her delicatessen and helped her market it as well.
Jay, who said that it had been her dream for a long time to open a delicatessen, was also helped in starting up the business by St Albans Enterprise Agency (STANTA) which helped her investigate local trading patterns and how to target her market correctly.
She added: “STANTA’s help and guidance has been invaluable to my business and I am sure it would be a great aid to any others considering beginning an enterprise in the local area.”
