A HARPENDEN man who was found dead by the side of his bed died as a result of natural causes, an inquest heard last Wednesday.
John Clansey, 67, was found by a carer at his home in Barrons Row on April 19 this year.
An inquest at The Old Court House, in Hatfield, heard that unmarried Mr Clansey was on medication at the time of his death for alcohol dependency.
However, whilst alcohol was found in his blood stream, it was not significant enough to have caused his death. A post mortem examination showed that his liver was also fine.
The inquest heard that Mr Clansey had died instantly as a result of a type of heart failure known as fatal acute cardiac dysrhythmia.
After recording the verdict, Coroner Edward Thomas described the situation as “very sad”.
Mr Clansey’s sister said during the inquest: “It is the end of a family era.”
