A Harpenden man has been arrested on suspicion of possessing indecent images of children.

A 34 year old Harpenden man has been arrested as part of a nationwide operation to target people accessing indecent images of children online.

The man, who is currently on bail until September 12, was arrested as part of a six month operation coordinated by the National Crime Agency which also saw six other arrests in the Hertfordshire area.

The operationhas previously remained out of the public eye to help manage the risks posed to children, identify offenders, and secure evidence.

DCI Stuart Orton, leader of Hertfordshire’s Child Online Safeguarding Team (COST), said: “Our work to tackle these crimes and bring offenders to justice is very much on-oing and we are continually carrying out proactive operations.

“These offenders actively promote the continued sexual abuse of children by downloading and distributing indecent images.

“They may think they are ‘invisible’ because they are alone and online, but they are not and we will use every power available to us to target those involved and ultimately safeguard children in Hertfordshire and around the world.”

Anyone who has information about those committing these offences should contact COST on the non-emergency number 101.
