TWO doctors facing several charges of misconduct relating to the death of a young sportswoman have had the case against them adjourned.

The General Medical Council (GMC) hearing investigating allegations that the death of Louise Field could have been prevented has been put back until later in the year with the date to be confirmed.

Vascular surgeon Dr Michael Ormiston of Abbey Mill End St Albans and Dr Wasfy Yanny, a consultant anaesthetist of Pennycroft, Harpenden operated on 27-year old Louise for an excessive sweating problem.

It was carried out at the Bupa Hospital in Harpenden - now known as the Spire Hospital.

However, Mrs Field - formerly of Wheathampstead - failed to wake up following the operation and was left brain dead. Her life support machine was turned off on March 22 by doctors at Hemel Hempstead Hospital where she was transferred after her oxygen levels dropped to dangerously low levels.

Both doctors deny misconduct.
