A Harpenden charity is urging residents to dig out their denim for Jeans for Genes day tomorrow (Friday).
The A-T Society will receive a much needed £7,500 grant following the event, which asks people to sport jeans for the day and raise money for genetic disorder charities.
It supports families with a rare genetic life-limiting condition called Ataxia-Telangiectasia (A-T), which sees those living with the condition wheelchair dependent by the age of 10 with a life expectancy of around 26.
The grant will partially fund an extra pair of hands to help family support co-ordinator Kay Atkins.
Kay is the only person in the UK with in-depth knowledge of the health, education and other needs of families living with A-T.
The charity’s chief executive, William David, said: “Jeans for Genes helped us to invest in the future with a grant to recruit a part-time family support coordinator.
“It’s reassuring to know Kay’s experience can be shared, ensuring continuity of care for the families who live every day with this devastating genetic condition.”
