A WOMAN who was born and has lived her life in Harpenden celebrated her 100th birthday last weekend surrounded by family and friends.
Violet Baukins, who was born on Queens Road, enjoyed a party at the nursing home in Luton where she now lives, after moving there last year.
Wearing a new dress and enjoying a piece of birthday cake, Violet was delighted with the celebrations and particularly pleased with her congratulatory card from the Queen.
The centenarian has three children, nine grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Prior to marrying Jack Baukins and moving to Cravells Road, Violet worked for SKF in Luton and cycled from Harpenden every day to make it into work.
Later in her life, Violet moved back to her birthplace and into flats on Bowling Close, before finally having to move into Capwell Grange Nursing Home in Luton after suffering from a bad fall.
