MORE heavy snow and sleet is expected today (Friday) according to the Met Office but gritters on their second outing round the district are having trouble getting through the traffic to treat the roads.

Herts County Council admits that its salt stocks are low.

Herts Highways started the night with 1,200 tonnes and 525 tonnes of that have been used or will be used throughout the day.

County has been promised a delivery of 180 tonnes today and are expecting the supply to continue over the weekend.

Salt bins were refilled on Wednesday and Thursday and county are advising residents that the salt and sand mix is for roads and pavements and not for private use.

St Albans market, which was cancelled on Wednesday, is scheduled to go ahead tomorrow (Saturday) but with far fewer stalls.
