FORMER Arsenal goalkeeper turned charity boss, Bob Wilson, was among the special guests at the launch of a new hospital scanner and two wards.
Bob, who set up the Willow Foundation with his wife Megs in memory of their daughter who died of cancer at the age of 31, was at the Spire Harpenden Hospital to mark the opening of the new MRI scanner and the critical and cancer care wards.
He was presented with a cheque for �500 for the Willow Foundation from hospital director Julia Salmon.
Bob was joined by Deputy Mayor of Harpenden, Cllr Daniel Chichester-Miles, and the head of Roundwood Park School, Nick Daymond for the launch.
The new cancer care ward is named Roundwood and consists of eight luxury rooms as well as being manned by highly-trained specialist nurses. Chemotherapy will be delivered there.
The four-bed critical care unit will improve the hospital's capacity for treating very complex medical and surgical patients.
