NOVEMBER emerged as the gloomiest month of the year so far according to weather figures released by Rothamsted in Harpenden.

Rainfall was above average for the eighth month this year with 91.1mm which is 24.9mm above the mean. Rain fell almost every day - 24 days were recorded as having 0.2mm or more of rain and three were over 10mm.

The wettest day was November 10 when 17.9mm of rain fell.

Sunshine was below average with 53.9 hours (down 16.2) with the sunniest day being November 11 with 5.8 hours. There were nine days with no sun at all.

Both the maximum and minimum mean temperatures were slightly above average at 9.5 and 4.2 respectively. The warmest day was November 14 when temperatures reached 14.5 degrees while the lowest minimum was -2.7 degrees on November 23.

November also had five air frosts and 10 ground frosts.
