Six long-standing RSPCA dogs are desperately looking to be re-homed in the run up to Christmas.

Maureen, a volunteer walker at the Southridge Animal Centre near London Colney, said: “I would so love these dogs to be adopted as they have been at the centre for so long.

“People can sometimes be put off adopting a rescue dog because they think they can be unpredictable but that’s not the case.

“I would always adopt a rescue dog because you know what you’re getting, and these dogs really are so lovely. Anyone I know who has had a rescue dog wouldn’t have it any other way, and that’s why we have such a small number of people who return the dogs.”

Among the six lonely canines are Lady the Lurcher, Sky the Staffie Cross, a Lurcher cross named Tina, Marley the Staffie, German Shepherd cross called Skipper, and Snowy, a Husky cross.

Lady is a beautiful stray who has a playful nature typical of a Lurcher, so will often chase cats and small animals.

Maureen said: “She loves having walks and cuddles, is great with other dogs and travels very well. You will fall in love with her,”

Sky is a friendly grey and white dog that has bundles of energy and loves to play ball. Maureen explained: “Sky needs a loving home soon as she gets stressed being in kennels. She loves people and loves to be fussed over.”

She described Tina the grey Lurcher cross who has been in the kennels the longest, as having a very playful nature and loving to chase a tennis ball.

“Tina needs to be in a loving home, she deserves it after being in kennels for such a long time.” .

Two-year old Marley, a Staffie, loves people and playing with other animals, even sharing his cage with the local sparrows.

Skipper is a loving dog who has been at the kennels for some time and, Maureen said, was “very well behaved and enjoys being groomed”.
