WATCH out St Albans – a swarm of runners will descend on the city this weekend for the annual half marathon.

The fundraising event, which will take place on Sunday, offers a variety of races to cater for anyone who wants to take part, including the mammoth half marathon, a 5K run, a 1.5-mile children’s fun run and a healthy hearts jog.

The event will be the 29th of its kind and nearly 2,000 people have signed up to the half marathon alone. Everyone who completes one of the races wins a medal – and even an ice lolly if it’s as hot as it was last year.

The day’s events kick off at 8am with the walking half marathon, followed by the 5K run at 9am, the half marathon at 10am, the fun run at 10.20am and, finally, the healthy hearts jog at 11am.

The main beneficiary will be the British Heart Foundation and for more information, visit www.stalbanshalfmarathon.co.uk
