The Liberal Democrats have been projected to take 50 per cent of the vote in St Albans in an informal Herts Advertiser straw poll.
The online survey of 5,000 readers shows that despite the party having lost support since the beginning of May, they are still ahead of Labour and the Conservatives.
Labour are in second place with 24 per cent of the vote.
The Conservatives, who won St Albans in 2015, are third on 20 per cent.
The Green Party are tied with UKIP, who are not running in the seat, on 3 per cent.
This week former Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg visited St Albans schools, following his successor Tim Farron’s several visits to the city.
At Albany Montessori School, Nick and the Lib Dem candidate for St Albans Daisy Cooper spoke to parents and teachers about cuts to school funding.
Daisy is running for the seat alongside Jack Easton for the Green Party, who last week was campaigning on air pollution, Anne Main for the Conservatives, rerunning after 12 years as the city’s MP, and Kerry Pollard for Labour, having launched his campaign last week.
