ST ALBANS: Essential works to replace an old gas main will begin next week, closing a road near to St Albans City Hospital for four weeks.

Waverley Road between the junctions with Batchwood Drive, Ladies Grove and Everlasting Lane will be closed as National Grid continues to replace old metal gas mains with tougher plastic pipes. They began work earlier this year on the scheme to replace 2.1km of the pipes, which is costing 578,000.

The closure will affect the 300 and 301 bus routes but a Master Travel minibus has been arranged to stop at all bus stops in Normandy Road, Waverley Road and at the hospital. These services will run from 8am to 5pm seven days a week.

West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust say they have made every effort to put plans in place to minimise potential disruption in accessing the hospital.
