WORKMEN will be replacing gas main in St Ives town centre starting in January.

National Grid, in partnership with Morrison Utility Services, has announced plans to replace 370 metres of gas mains in Bridge Street and The Pavement.

The scheme, which is expected to to completed by March, will go on display at a public meeting at the Corn Exchange in St Ives next month.

The information evening on Tuesday, November 2, starts at 7pm when staff from the two companies will outline details of the project and discuss people’s questions and concerns.

A spokesman for National Grid said the existing iron gas mains would be replaced with long-lasting plastic pipes that have a lifespan of 80 years.

She added that to out the work safely it is expected that traffic management will be needed, including some road closures.
