A GAS leak stopped a secondary school in St Albans from opening this morning (January 18).

Nicholas Breakspear School, in Colney Heath Lane, was advised to close today to staff and pupils on health and safety grounds after the source of a gas leak was discovered last night.

The problem is currently being fixed and the school hopes to open as normal on Monday.

Year 12 and 13 exams have gone ahead today in a nearby building that has been deemed safe, but Year 11 and Year 9 exams will be resheduled for next week.

A number of other primary and secondary schools across the distrct have also shut today due to snowfall. For more information on emergency school closures visit
