Harpenden 5 Wapping 3

AFTER a disappointing draw against Bourne last week, Harpenden returned to winning ways with an impressive victory against Wapping.

Harpenden's team performance was significantly improved from the previous week and the win was well deserved, if not comfortable.

The Harpenden scoring was opened by Man of the Match Todd Baines when he followed up a shot from Lance Boyd-Clarke. Wapping soon equalised with a short corner but the home team regained the lead with a short corner strike of their own from the impressive Mike Emes.

From the next corner, skipper David Jeffrey followed up a Paul Davison strike to increase the lead to two goals before the interval.

Wapping pegged a goal back but Baines pounced for his second after a fine interchange of passing with Boyd-Clarke. Wapping pushed forward but Harpenden continued to threaten on the break, with debutant Simon Cain having a fine first game for the first team.

Wapping scored from a deflected cross but soon after Harpenden restored their two goal cushion and secured the three points when David Falk finished superbly to make it 5-3.

Harpenden Ladies drew 1-1 at Crostyx with Emma Lythgoe scoring the goal. The ladies travel to St Neots on Saturday.
