BUTTERFLIES of all shapes and sizes flew into the city's newest tourist attraction for a special family fun day on Saturday.

Children and their parents were invited to dress in fully butterfly regalia to get in free at Future Gardens, the first phase of the Butterfly World project in Chiswell Green.

And while it was the children who were judged on their appearance by top garden designer and patron of the Butterfly World Trust, Ivan Hicks, in a colourful butterfly pageant, many of their parents sported wings and antennae as well.

The fun day, which drew plenty of visitors despite the overcast weather, also offered butterfly face painting, story-telling sessions and a special visit from Eric Carle's creation, the Very Hungry Caterpillar.
