BRIGHT sparks at a primary school in Wheathampstead celebrated National Science and Engineering week by inventing some crazy creatures.
Pupils at St Helen's Church of England School were challenged to create a mythical creature out of nothing but card and glue and, with help from their parents at home, the budding scientists also made a slingshot to propel a bean bag across the playground.
To mark the end of their week, all the pupils watched a Quantum Theatre production, Octopushy!, which explored the topic of forces.
Head teacher Andrew Emeny said that everyone enjoyed the week: "This has been a superb National Science and Engineering week and has helped bring our learning to life at St Helen's school.
