TWO schools let their hair down for special events weeks before the start of the Easter break.

Maple School in St Albans held a designated week on the theme of Maths Is All Around Us and Windermere School, also in St Albans, opted for a Learning Together Week.

Among the activities at Maple was a whole school Smarties Investigation, Happy Puzzle Workshops, a Maths Trail around the school grounds and a visit from the Quantum Theatre Company.

Maths co-ordinator Rachel de la Croix, commented: "The children have had a great week learning more about maths through many different practical activities. A special highlight was our Maths Caf which involved all the pupils cooking, selling and eating food items with a mathematical theme."

Winderemere's Learning Together Week took the theme of Going for Goals and provided opportunities for children to reflect on themselves as individuals, particularly their strengths as learners and how they learn most effectively.

Children had the opportunity to choose the activities they wished to learn from team games to food technology and writing their own information books.

There was also a workshop led by Saracens' cheerleaders and a chance to learn circus skills including scarf juggling, feather balancing and plate spinning and the tightrope.
