Sunshine, snow and sell-out events summed up an annual village May Festival which broke all records over the bank holiday.

Kimpton May Festival is the largest such event in Herts and this year it took the theme of Animal Magic.

It included a host of new and bigger events to attract people of all ages.

Starting with the art show in the church and a sell-out wine tasting last Friday, villagers and visitors alike helped to make sure all the events were a major hit with the festival likely to have raised in excess of £25,000.

Other highlights across the course of the four days included the procession which featured the May Queen and her attendants, a fun run, a tribute ABBA night, The Brains of Kimpton and the Kimpton Entertains show.

The festival prides itself on providing new entertainment and this year was no exception as a dog show proved to be a major success along with a selfie competition.

Commenting on the weekend, chairman of the festival John Hills said: “The 52nd May Festival in the village has been one of the best yet, and although weather was mixed, almost all of our events sold out and that has gone to make it the best year yet in terms of fundraising.

“I’m delighted that we are able to provide such an entertaining weekend for all those who come but there is also a serious side to the event and the money raised will go to a host of good causes both in the village and further afield.”

While the dust settles on another year, John is ready to make sure 2017 is even better. He said: “Plans are already in place for another great event. We have announced that Rolling Stones tribute act Rolling Clones will be playing next year and work has already started on a number of additions. We will also be distributing funds raised this year so our work continues through the year.”
