A STEAM road roller has been puffing its way across St Albans this week in anticipation of the Steam and Country Show this weekend.

The bottle green roller, first bought by the city in 1913, returned to St Albans on Tuesday, starting its journey at the Museum of St Albans and continuing along St Peter's Street and Victoria Street.

Sold by St Albans Corporation in 1958 for 25, the 10-ton Aveling & Porter steam road roller has been restored to its original condition and will be featuring at this weekend's show at Oaklands College's Smallford Campus.

The show, which has been organised by Herts Stem Engine Preservation Club, will present over 30 steam engines, old farm tractors and classic cars and will be open form 10am to 5pm on both days.
