A FOOTBALL player needed hospital treatment after he was attacked by a dog on Sunday morning.
The incident occurred at 10.40am at the football pitches near Cunningham Hill Road in St Albans.
The dog was running loose while a match was taking place and it turned and bit one of the players on the leg as he stood near the goal area.
The dog was a pit bull-type breed or something similar, had sandy-coloured fur and was wearing a brown collar with a gold nameplate.
Pc Karen Goodwin said police were keen to speak to the dog's owner and added: "We don't believe it was a stray because it was wearing a collar."
