The white goods were strewn across the verge on Tower Hill Lane and Symondshyde Lane, off Coopers Green Road, on Tuesday evening.

Alison Pathe was visiting her father when she saw the debris: “I feel so disgusted, they should be ashamed.

“It was absolutely shocking, I was aghast because the fridges were on both sides of the road.

“I couldn’t believe the extent of it and how many there were. I can’t believe people would do this.

“It just made me feel physically sick because what if animals and wildlife got trapped inside?”

The road, although very close to St Albans district, falls under the remit of Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council (WHBC) to clean up.

A spokesperson from WHBC said: “We are working with Herts county council to ensure that the flytip is cleared as soon as possible.”
